DNA testing Sometimes, there are questions left in your mind that need to be answered. Paternity issues, if not resolved on time, can cause a lot of problems later, for the partners as well as the child. The lingering doubts begin to eat away at your relationship and it is better for everybody concerned to opt for DNA testing to clear doubts forever.

It is a simple and painless test that just requires buccal swabs as sample. Cotton swabs are rubbed against the inside of the cheek which loosens a few cells. These swabs are then sealed and sent for testing. Legal dna test is conclusive proof of paternity and can even be used to rule out alleged fatherhood for those who have been mistakenly blamed. In some cases it is used to confirm family ties among siblings, grandparents, ancestry and so on. Sometimes, it may be required by law to establish paternity for cases dealing with child support, custody and inheritance claims. DNA testing is also required for immigration purposes where proper birth documents are not available or satisfactory.

The reason behind the DNA test dictates the type of test to be ordered. If you do not intend to present the results to a court of law, then cheap dna testing like the home paternity test should be more than sufficient. However, if you intend to use this information as legal proof then a legal paternity test should be ordered. Though the testing procedure for both types remains the same, the method of sample collection varies.

In a home dna paternity test, the sample collection kit is sent home and you may provide samples in the privacy of your home. On the other hand, in a legal Paternity testing, certain requirements set out by the law have to be kept in mind. Samples in this case are collected by a third party who is not involved in any way, such as the DNA testing centre or a nurse, physician as the case may be. One is also required to provide identification proof and samples are always kept in a tamper proof packing.

Normally, samples are taken from both mother and the alleged father. As the child inherits DNA in equal amounts from his parents, the DNA sample of the mother helps to match 50 % of the DNA make up. The rest should have compelling link from the alleged father. This test offers results in a probability up to 99.9%.

DNA testing is also undertaken for other reasons such as to understand any genetic disorders that a child may have to facilitate proper treatment. Besides this, it is used in forensic science to establish innocence or to link a crime to a suspect. Prenatal testing can also be undertaken should the situation demand it. This is now also available as a non invasive test where the mother’s blood sample along with that of the alleged father is used to confirm paternity before birth. However, sometimes an amniocentesis may become necessary. It is always advisable to consider all the pros and cons before opting for cheap paternity test.
